Criminal Defense Assistance
Organization: Fair Fight Action
Volunteer Activity
We are seeking your assistance as we build a network of volunteer lawyers who would be willing to defend/assist people who may be criminalized for lawful voting activity or because of an innocent mistake, including individuals registering people to vote, someone helping other voters obtain absentee ballots, and organizing rides to the polls.
Why it’s Important
During early voting and on Election Day, we want to be able to ensure access to criminal defense and assistance, free of charge, to voters and others who are empowering themselves and others to vote, but are being persecuted and prosecuted by state and local governments as a form of voter intimidation and suppression.

Timeframe: The need is immediate and will continue through early voting and extend through the deadline for absentee votes to be counted and possibly beyond.
Mandatory Time Commitment: Dependent on facts of particular cases.
The person must be trained as an attorney and have an active bar license in the state in which the attorney will be volunteering. We are especially in need of attorneys who speak languages other than English.
The work cannot be performed remotely. We are seeking attorneys in twelve states: Arizona, Florida, Georgia, Maine, Minnesota, Michigan, North Carolina, Nevada, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Texas, and Wisconsin.
