This year the National Bail Out Collective is launching their third annual Black Mama’s Day Bail Out. Between May 6th and May 12th organizers across the country will bail out as many mothers and caregivers as we can. The Mama’s Day Bail Out is an annual action that calls attention to the cruelties of pretrial detention, frees our people from cages so they can be home with their families for Mother’s Day, provides supportive services to those we bail out and supports local campaigns to end money bail and pretrial detention.
As one of the founding members of the National Bail Out Collective, Law for Black Lives is incredibly excited to support the life saving and system changing work of the collective.

Provide needed legal support! If you are interested in providing local organizations with legal or research support please fill out this survey by Friday, April 26th. We need folks to represent people, courtwatch, share sample memos and conduct policy research.

WHAT IS NATIONAL BAIL OUT?
The National Bail Out is a Black-led and Black-centered collective of abolitionist organizers, lawyers and activists building a community-based movement to support our folks and end systems of pretrial detention and ultimately mass incarceration. We are people who have been impacted by cages — either by being in them ourselves or witnessing our families and loved ones be encaged. We are queer, trans, young, elder, and immigrant. WHAT DOES NATIONAL BAIL OUT DO?
#FreeBlackMamas is an annual campaign where we coordinate and lead tactical bail outs to free as many Black mamas and caregivers as we can so they can spend Mother’s Day with their families and communities. These Black Mama’s Bail Outs are hosted by National Bail Out (NBO) through our member organizations and collective infrastructure. We also exist in community with inspired groups across the country organizing individual #FreeBlackMamas initiatives that amplify and align with our vision and values. Since the inception of NBO, we have collectively bailed out more than 300 community members nationwide.
In addition to bailing out community members, we also provide support services, fellowship programs, and employment opportunities. We do this in order to support their growth and develop their leadership as people who have experienced incarceration. We conduct research and document how bail devastates our communities through statistical reporting, ethical story sourcing and sharing, and archiving.
